London Diabetes Centre invests in Birmingham clinic

Marylebone based specialist clinic, London Diabetes Centre is expanding its offering by launching a new centre in Birmingham, with others set to follow in the UK over the coming years.

The clinic located in Edgbaston has benefitted from a £200,000 investment by the London Diabetes Centre, part of the London Medical family. It will initially focus on diabetes and weight loss, but will also be able to draw on the comprehensive cohort of specialists based in London and nationally.

The clinic, the only specialist diabetes centre in West Midlands, will be led by Dr Parijat De, a leading expert in diabetes with 20 years experience in the Birmingham region who also practices in the local NHS. He said: “A recent survey published by Diabetes UK in November 2021 showed that people diagnosed with diabetes in the Midlands had risen by 22,974 to 700,610.

“We wanted to make sure that people with diabetes have access to specific advice and support that is tailored to their particular needs and lifestyle.”

“Our approach to managing diabetes is unique in that we treat the patient in entirety, taking into consideration other factors. It’s an integrated method that looks at other organ systems affected by diabetes, gives time to each patient, and organises ongoing care which puts the treatment for the diabetes in the context of a patient’s physical health and mental welfare.”

Tony Graff, the London Diabetes Centre chief executive officer, commented on the practice’s expansion plans. He said: “Our first clinic outside London is a truly specialist centre providing adult diabetes patients in Birmingham and the wider Midlands with a service that provides access to cutting edge knowledge, treatments and technology. Combining those three elements, we can work with patients to offer treatment programmes that match their lifestyles.”

“Our specialists work alongside the NHS to give advice on how to manage diabetes for both adults and children.    Our consultants regularly participate in Webinars allowing both GPs and patients to have direct access to our team for questions or education on the latest advances.   The support plans on offer are affordable and are available both in-person and remote giving you the very latest advice state-of-the-art knowledge, diagnostics, and equipment to give you world class care.”

The new centre will also have the ability to call upon its sister clinic in London, which is the largest specialist private diabetes clinic in the UK for adults and children, with specialist expertise in pumps and sensors, cholesterol and heart disease, hypertension, weight loss.  retinal disease and fatty liver enabling people with diabetes to get joined up care in one place.

Tony concluded: “Our vision is to offer a choice of care that’s centred on our patients’ needs enabling them to live their best life.”
